چکیده

In this paper, we present three hierarchical multiscale architectures that are interconnected electrooptically at micro-scale level and via spin waves at nanoscale level. These architectures are derived from the Optical Reconfigurable Mesh (ORM), which is a MEMS architecture that supports several types of electrical and optical routings. The first multi-scale architecture presented here is a structure that consists of a set of nano-scale spin-wave crossbars that intercommunicate via the ORM’s MEMS electro-optical routing. The second architecture consists of an array of nano-scale reconfigurable meshes that are interconnected with standard electrical reconfigurable switches at the microscale level. And, finally, the third architecture is a set of fully interconnected spin-wave clusters that can intercommunicate directly with one another using the ORM’s MEMS free-space optical routing mechanism.

SWIFT: Fast algorithms for multi-resolution SPH on multi-core architectures

This paper describes a novel approach to neighbourfinding in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations with large dynamic range in smoothing length. This approach is based on hierarchical cell decompositions, sorted interactions, and a task-based formulation. It is shown to be faster than traditional tree-based codes, and to scale better than domain decomposition-based approaches on sha...

Hierarchical architectures in structured peer-to-peer overlay networks

Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) are presently used in several large-scale systems in the Internet and envisaged as a key mechanism to provide identifier-locator separation for mobile hosts in Future Internet. Such P2P-based systems become increasingly complex serving popular social networking, resource sharing applications, and Internet-scale infrastructures. Hierarchy is a standard mechanism for...

Nano scale computational architectures with Spin Wave Bus

We propose and analyze a new kind of nano scale computational architectures using spin waves as a physical mechanism for device interconnection. Information is encoded into the phase of spin waves propagating in a ferromagnetic film — a Spin Wave Bus. We describe several possible logic devices utilizing spin waves. The performance of the proposed devices is illustrated by numerical modeling bas...

Optical Node Architectures That Utilize Dedicated Add/Drop Switches to Realize Colorless, Directionless and Contentionless Capability

This paper proposes optical node architectures for the single-layer optical cross-connect (OXC) and hierarchical OXC (HOXC) that utilize dedicated add/drop switches for originating/terminating traffic at a node. For both single-layer OXC and HOXC, three architectures with different restrictions on add/drop capabilities are presented. The performance of the proposed architectures is compared thr...

Hierarchical modeling of multi-scale flow barriers in channelized reservoirs

Channelized reservoirs often show multi-scale architectures such as large-scale channel belts, middle-scale single channels and small-scale channel infill facies. These architectural elements are defined between bounding surfaces. Along these hierarchical bounding surfaces, thin shale drapes may be present as flow barriers that compartmentalize the reservoirs. Since the distribution of shale dr...
